CEG Solutions Earns South Carolina’s 2025 Gleaming Star Safety Award
ARLINGTON, VA – June 10, 2025 –The South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) has awarded CEG Solutions, LLC, the 2025 Gleaming Star Safety Award, recognizing the company’s outstanding commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence.
The Gleaming Star Safety Award is presented annually to companies that maintain exemplary safety records, with no lost-time incidents or serious injuries over the previous year. Recipients must also demonstrate a proactive approach to safety training, risk mitigation, and compliance across all operations.
CEG won this award for its safety performance during the construction of the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC). The project, valued at $35.5 million, includes energy and infrastructure upgrades across 86 buildings at Joint Base Charleston. The work encompasses HVAC modernization, lighting retrofits, boiler and chiller replacements, advanced building controls, and the installation of a 500 kW solar PV system. These improvements are projected to reduce energy and operational costs by approximately $2.5 million annually, cutting grid electricity use by 24%, natural gas consumption by 41%, and steam usage by 44%, while eliminating over 10,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
The NIWC team kept safety at the forefront by organizing fall protection measures, reviewing Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and ensuring that every installer remained incident-free throughout construction operations.
The award was accepted by Nicholas Richardson, M.S., CSP, Director of Environmental, Health & Safety on behalf of CEG Solutions, at the award ceremony on June 2nd at the Denny Auditorium at the South Carolina Fire Academy.
“The Gleaming Star Safety Award is a direct result of the relentless focus our team brings to the field every single day,” said Nicholas Richardson, M.S., CSP, Director of Environmental, Health & Safety at CEG Solutions. “Safety isn’t a milestone—it’s a mindset. This award affirms that our teams don’t cut corners, don’t compromise, and don’t lose sight of what matters most: protecting lives while delivering exceptional results.”
